Let's start with the elephant in the room: wobble. I once bought a "premium" plastic cat house that promised to be "stable for active cats." Within a week, my tabby, Mochi, decided to use it as a launchpad during her 3 a.m. zoomies. The whole thing toppled over, and I spent the next 20 minutes prying a very indignant (and slightly traumatized) cat out from under the couch. That's when I realized: Stability isn't a "nice-to-have" for cat furniture—it's a non-negotiable.
Then there's the weight issue. If you rent an apartment (hello, fellow nomads), moving heavy wooden furniture every time your lease ends is a nightmare. And don't even think about trying to take a bulky cat house on a weekend trip to visit family—your suitcase is already full of cat toys and treats (priorities, right?).
And let's talk about the planet. So many cat products are made from non-recyclable plastic or particleboard glued together with chemicals that make you wonder if you're doing more harm than good. As someone who tries to buy eco-friendly whenever possible, I felt guilty every time I looked at that plastic eyesore in the corner. There had to be a better way.
